It was a hot, sunny morning in Manhattan. The large buildings were blocking the sun, but the heat could still be felt. Traffic like you couldn’t believe it. Hundreds of people walking up and down the streets. Hot dog and ice cream stands were open for business, as well as all the stores. The smell of food, beeping of cars, and voices of people chitchatting were throughout the city.
A small, yellow taxi pulled over to the sidewalk. Two teenage girls got out of the car. One had dark brown hair and brown eyes. She was wearing an orange shirt that read, “ I <3 New York” in white, jean shorts, and white flip-flops. The other girl had blonde hair and green eyes. She was wearing a pink shirt that had yellow and blue flowers on it, jean shorts, and yellow sneakers. On the sidewalk, another teenage girl was walking up to the taxi. She had black hair and icy, blue eyes. This girl was wearing a blue shirt, jean shorts, and dark blue flip-flops.
“Hi Kelsey!"
"Hi Ariel!” Kelsey, whose white flip-flop fell off getting out of the car, said hi to Colleen.
Ariel said, “You guys ready for the zoo?”
“Yup!” said Colleen.
“I can’t wait to see the penguins!” said Kelsey.
“Me too! They are so cute!” said Ariel.
Then, Ariel did a cartwheel. She was very happy because she had just got a dog named “Lucky.” Kelsey had a yorkie puppy named “Shamrock” and Colleen had a mountain dog named “Murphy.” They would all bring their dogs over to their houses to play with each other. On the other hand, Colleen’s parents
had just divorced. She was going to live with her dad and brother, Connor. Her mom was going back to Canada, which is where they all are originally from. Colleen came here with her family fours years ago, when her dad got a new job in the US. Colleen was very upset, so Kelsey and Ariel were trying to make her feel
better by taking her to the zoo.
They walked eight blocks and got to the gate. The then meet their friend, Liam, there. Liam had blonde hair and blue eyes. He was wearing a blue shirt, jeans, and blue sneakers. They meet and got their tickets. As they entered the big zoo, they saw many different kinds of animals, from birds to lions to elephants. Kelsey ran right to the penguins. When she got there, there was a huge crowd of people looking at the penguins. A zookeeper asked her if she wanted to pet a penguin. It was a cute, female penguin, whose name was “Peggy Waddles!” The friends looked at all the animals. After that they sat down and had some popcorn. Popcorn and the animals were the only smell that could be smelled for miles away. The four friends went into the gift shop. Kelsey got a penguin keychain, well Colleen and Ariel got stuffed animals. Colleen got a lion and Ariel got a polar bear. Connor got a water bottle and the friends headed home.
They called a cab and drove home. The four friends had a great trip to the zoo! They got to see their favorite animal, the penguin! And they all lived happily ever after!

Danforth Bay
One day Rachel and her family went on a camping trip to Danforth Bay. Danforth Bay is located in New Hampshire. The family decided to go there because Rachel’s father heard it was a great place to go camping. When they finally arrived there and set up everything, nothing was how they expected it to be!
There was a horrible scent of skunks that made them quite sick, but the wonderful scent of hotdogs and hamburgers cooking over a campfire helped get rid of the awful scent of skunks.
Not only did they smell the skunks, but they saw them as well, along with cute little chipmunks that kept visiting their campsite to try and steal some of their food.
That night while they were sleeping in their tent, Donna, Rachel’s mom, heard a sound outside their tent. She thought it was a cow, but Paul, Rachel’s dad, opened the window of the red and gray tent and saw that it was actually a bear, not a cow.
The next day while Rachel and her family were eating breakfast, two big, black and orange butterflies started to attack Rachel and her mom. So James, Rachel’s brother, started to spray the butterflies with bug spray. Once the butterflies were sprayed they were so sticky that they laid on the ground and couldn’t move. After about ten minutes after the butterfly attack, it started to rain all day long until about 930 pm.
That night after the rain stopped, James and Paul were roasting hot dogs over a big campfire when all of a sudden a skunk popped out of nowhere and started to chase them for their hotdogs. After about two minutes of being chased, the skunk was about to spray them when finally they decided to give up their hotdogs.
After all of those problems, the rest of the camping trip was a lot of fun except for when Rachel’s dad went canoeing the next day to get away from all the animals, he tipped his canoe and fell into the ice cold water!
That night Rachel and James decided to roast big fluffy marshmallows to make warm, delicious smores for themselves and the rest of the family. It was their last day there and they wanted to make it special, so they decided to go hiking down a long trail and through many tail trees. When they did they heard many birds chirping, they felt the nice cool breeze, and they were able to taste the nice fresh air, and there was a big long lake that was rushing through the trees. There was one problem, they were getting a lot of Mosquito bites, which hurt a lot and were extremely itchy!
After their long, peaceful hike, they went back to their site and decided to make their last Hamburgers, hot dogs, and of course smores. They wanted to enjoy the rest of their time in the great outdoors having fun together.
The last night of their trip sleeping in their tent was a long one for the whole family, because they were anxiously waiting to be able to take everything down, say a final farewell to the great outdoors, and go home.
The next day finally came and it happened to be the nicest day of the entire time that they were on their trip. Rachel and her family wanted to stay a little bit longer but they couldn’t, they had to go home.
They slowly and sadly took everything down, packed everything in the bags and boxes, packed the car, got their last souvenirs, and got ready for their long ride back home to New Jersey.
While they were leaving, Rachel was still able to taste the smores, burgers, and hotdogs they made the night before they had to leave. She was also able to still smell the fresh air, food cooking over a campfire, and of course the skunks!
Rachel and her family knew it was time to go home, even though they did not want to leave. They knew that they had a great time and would be back next year, but they hoped the skunks wont.
The Beach
I wake up at 6:49. My eyes are still blurry and I smell pancakes. Then I realize it’s the first day of summer. Yes! Finally! I start to smile hugely and I call Kelly. When she answers I hear screaming. It’s not bad screaming but good screaming! “OMG Melissa today is the first day of summer, and our parents are finally letting us go to the beach by ourselves!” screams Kelly. “I know! I am so excited! I can’t stop smiling!” I tell her.
After Kelly and I talk for about an hour, I tell her I have to go because I’m about to starve to death. I go down stairs and walk into the kitchen. “Good morning.” says my mom. “Hey mom, can Kelly and I go to the beach today?” I ask her. “I suppose so” she answers. “Thanks so much, mom!” I say happily.
After breakfast I text Kelly and tell her the great news. She said she would pick me up in an hour. When you think about it, an hour isn’t a lot of time for a girl to get ready, so I rush to take a shower, do my hair, pick out a really cute outfit, and pack my bag for the beach. I also had to pack the cooler with food and drinks. By the time I finish packing, Kelly is honking outside. I hug and kiss my mother good bye and promise her we will be safe and wear sunscreen.
When Kelly and I are about five miles away from the beach, we can already smell the saltwater, fish and sunscreen. We saw many people walking with coolers and wearing bathing suits. When we get to the beach, it’s surprisingly not crowded. Kelly and I lay our blankets down and put the umbrella up. We take our cover-ups off and run for the water.
The water was really cold, but we didn’t care. Not many people were in the water. The sun wasn’t even out. The waves felt like ice crashing against my body. The waves were getting harder and harder. We were being pulled out to sea. The few people who were in the water got out. Even the lifeguards took their umbrellas down and left. I got worried and looked to my right where Kelly was a minute ago. I looked in every direction but couldn’t find her. I screamed her name. Nothing. My whole body is facing the shore when I see Kelly’s head bob up. I yell for her but before I can say her name, she screams “Melissa look out!”
Just then I look behind me and a giant wave knocks me down. I tumble in every direction and I swallow sand and water. I hit the shore. Hard. Another wave pulls me out. Then an even bigger wave hits me and this time I land real hard on the shore far enough where no other waves can reach me. I get really dizzy. Kelly runs over asking if I am okay. When I don’t reply she says she’s going to get help. My eyes get blurrier and blurrier. My head and arm hurt really badly. Just when I feel like I am about to pass out, I see a tall figure running towards me. The figure picks me up and starts running. It feels like we are running for ages. I finally see a bright red sign. It looks like a cross. We go into a building, but before I can see where we are, my eyes go completely black.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * *
I wake up in a metal bed. I hear beeping and I smell medicine. I sit up in the bed and notice my arm is in a cast. I have a horrible headache. “Oh you’re up dear.” says a short lady in a white outfit. I’m guessing she’s my nurse because she comes over and takes my temperature. She asks my how a feel. I ask her how I got here. “A nice young boy carried you two miles.” She left me to get some rest.
When I woke up there was a boy in the chair next to my bed. He looked familiar. “Hey Melissa, do you remember me? From summer camp.” he asked. I remembered. In my head I saw the late nights Kelly and I spent together. Telling ghost stories, roasting smores, and night swimming in the lake. We used to go to that summer camp every year until this year because we were too old. Then I remembered the boy, Kyle. He was the boy everyone had a crush on, including me. I had a crush on him ever since the first year of camp.
My mom picked me up from the hospital. I thought she would be mad, but she was totally calm. “You’re lucky Kyle was there.” she says. “Yes, yes I was.” Then I remember the dark figure.
When I got home, I call Kelly and tell her about Kyle and him signing my cast and HIM ASKING ME OUT! She doesn’t answer, and then I realize Kelly didn’t like Kyle. “Kelly are you there?” I ask. “Melissa, you can’t be serious. Please tell me you said no.” she replies. “Well….I said yes. Kelly you can’t expect me to say no when I have been waiting for him to ask me out forever. I’m not going to say no just because you don’t like him.” I say.
We argue for a few minutes but then I hang up. I can’t believe that Kelly, my best friend for years, would make me decide between her and a boy I had a crush on for about seven years. The next day I call Kelly and tell her that I can’t decide between them both because she is my best friend and I don’t want a guy to come between us.
A New Life
234 was the house I lived in, next to the house which was orange. I lived with both my parents my mother merry and my father Joe. I had an eldest brother Erick which moved away when he was 18. We lived in a 2 bedroom apartment. I hated living here it was like one of the worst things. My senior year which was this year was horrible, teachers were mean, I didn’t like the environment around me , everyone had friends boyfriends and it was just me by myself . All I was looking for was something more than what I had gotten at this high school. I was looking for good treatment, nice students, and wanted to make some friends, and the usual routine of school. I always wanted to be independent like my brother Erick. I thought to my self maybe when I finish my senior year things won’t be as difficult or as rough as they are now.
I was the only one in my class with blue eyes and blonde hair. I felt like my life was dark and gory and just bloomy while others were more like happy silly and bright. As days passed, my graduation was almost here. I had only 3 more days until this big graduation day. I wasn’t as excited as the others in my class, all I was excited about was for after graduation, and so I can move away and be independent. As I get prepared for graduation I feel like I didn’t accomplish anything cause there is no excitement in me. Here is the big day and everyone is happy and I feel nothing exciting.
A couple of days after, I have a talk with both my parents. I start of by telling them that it was really rough in high school and that I depended a lot on my parents and I should take matters into my own hand and try to be independent. They asked what do I mean by take matters into my own hand and I replied by saying I think I should move away and try to be independent because if I move I will be more independent. They responded by saying if you keep on with your education and maybe follow Erick’s footsteps you won’t have such a rough time so they agreed and so I told them I was moving down the shore by the beach. As I started packing I felt the emptiness inside this room. I packed all my stuff and put it in the car and start loading the car up. I had a house down the shore and my brother lived around it. As I’m on my way I feel the lively atmosphere around here as I get closer and I arrive I can hear the waves crashing into the rocks. I taste the heat and I feel the sun beaming on me. As I walk on the board walk I’m feeling this area and the feeling of the sand on the floor. It’s very crowded with lots of people and smiles on everyone’s faces.
While I’m walking through this crowd I drop my keys and this nice gentle man picks it up for me and smiles. We get to know each other, I find out his name is max. We start asking each other question. I had asked him what his favorite color was and were does he live. He replied by saying my favorite color is white and I live 2 blocks away from hear. I told him what my favorite color was and where I lived, and I said my favorite color is pink and I live right around the corner from hear. We got to get closer with each other and get to know a little bit more about each other. Seven years later we got married with each other. We had our wedding and things ended up happy. I was surprised on how amazing my life turned out to be.

The Hoboken Monkey Man
On June 17, 2011 I was walking around Hoboken with my friends Brittany, Tianna, Bryana, Lidia, Kristin, Tessa, and Andrea. We saw Bryana’s dad, who is a cop, by an old warehouse. We asked what was going on and he said that the warehouse had been even more destroyed then it usually was and to keep an eye out for suspicious looking people.
A week later at Brittany’s house the news came on and they were talking about an unidentified hairy creature that was roaming 10th street. My friends and I wanted to help out the town and be detectives so we went to Sybil’s Cave and looked around. It was really dark so I accidently stepped on somebody’s foot and said sorry and the voice that returned was a thick male voice that said, "that’s okay". My friends and I started spazzing out, so we tried to leave but the anonymous voice tried to apologize for scaring us and introduced himself as the Hoboken Monkey Man. After all of us were out of the state of shock, we told Monkey Man that we had to turn him in to the cops but he begged us not to, saying that the cops would take him away. We thought about it and told him that we’d be back tomorrow to help him out.
The next day came very fast and everybody met at the courtyard and walked to Sybil’s Cave where we spoke to Monkey Man and told him that we didn’t have to bring him to the police because he wasn’t hurting anybody. After that, we all hung out- Monkey Man included! Monkey Man said he was hungry so we went to Mario’s and ordered 57 slices of pepperoni pizza, which Monkey Man shoved down his throat and didn’t leave any for us. Our next stop was Fourth Street where we go to be lazy and sit on the turf, until Monkey Man saw a truck that advertised Carlo’s bakery and said that he always wanted to try a cannoli. We took Monkey Man to get 42 cannolis’, which he thought was the best thing in the world and, to tell you the truth, they’re not. The day was coming to a finish so the last thing we got to do was go to 7-11 and get jumbo sized slurpees and throw them in random peoples face. As we said our goodbyes, we told Monkey Man that we’d pick him up the next day at 12.
The next day came equally as fast as the days before and our routine continued until one day Monkey Man said he was going to take us all shopping in New York for all the kind things we’ve done for him. As soon as we got out of the car a group of paparazzi came and took pictures of Monkey Man telling him that he was famous now. We all started laughing and we sprinted away from the paparazzi and were out of breath. We sat down on a bench and continued laughing until we actually went shopping. After we got back from New York, we went to Ben and Jerry’s to get ice cream and went to Pier C and sat there for a while until the Monkey Man raced up the steps of an oversized slide. As he was going down he got stuck and was asking for help, but my friends and I were to busy laughing because that’s the type of people we are. Eventually after a good 10 minutes we pulled Monkey Man out by his feet and we all started with an eruption of laughs once again. After our laughing fit was over, I checked my phone and saw that it was 10:45, fifteen minutes before my curfew, so we told Monkey Man that we’d see him tomorrow.
The next day came slowly and we all met up together and picked up Monkey Man and went to lunch at Qdoba and got quesadillas. After lunch, we were all bored so we bought spray paint, water guns and balloons, mentos and 3 litters of diet pepsi. Chaos ensued and somebody called the cops so we ran all through Hoboken hoping we wouldn’t get caught. After a few days our routines were getting dull and boring and it was almost the end of summer. We had a big party to try and make the last 2 weeks of summer worth it before we had to go back to school. During the party there was a food fight, a water gun and balloon fight, and a pizza eating contest and of course Monkey Man won that. As the last day of summer came, we were all walking on Washington street and suddenly Monkey Man fell into a pothole. We all laughed and ran away. It was hard to breath at the same time then the ground started opening up and we all fell inside. I was woken up by my grandma telling me it was time for school, and I realized it was a dream.
Canada
Meagan and Patrick arrived at Shawmere at 11 a.m. on a Saturday. Andy had been there for two hours already. He was waiting impatiently when they arrived at Meagan and Patrick’s grandfather’s cabin to pick Andy up. They sat by the fire pit almost silently for about a half hour until Emily and her crew drove up. The three of them walked across the road to their cabins to help them unpack. Meagan, Patrick, Emily, and Rachel have been going up to Shawmere since before they were born. This year was only Andy’s second time. Jessica and Erica, Emily’s two best friends, and her boyfriend, Jonathan are completely new to Shawmere. It didn’t take long for everyone to become friends. Vacation had finally begun.
Emily and Meagan have been anticipating how much fun their Canada visit was going to be ever since they left Canada last year. Until February, they had no idea there would be so many people. That fact made them even more excited. They knew this year would be unforgettable.
Jon and Emily have been dating for six months. Emily invited him and his sister Jessica to stay in the cabin next to the Disbrows. The problem with Jon being up is that Andy liked Emily. They live in two different states, so he thought it would be pointless to like her. Everyone else is convinced that Andy hasn’t given up yet. He claims he hasn’t liked her since last year, but he’s very stubborn so it’s hard to tell. He wouldn’t even go to the hospital to get stitches or to get a hook removed from his thumb.
On Tuesday night, it was too damp to have a campfire. Everyone was inside when Andy, Meagan, and Patrick heard rustling outside, but they brushed it off as the trees blowing in the breeze. They knew they were wrong when there was a thump and a bang at the door. Meagan opened the inside door and looked down to see a raccoon! Andy tried to scare it away by barking. It worked for about two minutes. When the raccoons came back, Andy, being the crazy, stubborn person that he is, ran outside and chased them away. Meagan and Patrick were able to hear his barking from inside the cabin!
When Andy found out that Meagan and Rachel thought he was flirting with Emily, he wasn’t very happy. He wasn’t upset for very long, though. Andy built a campfire on the day of the fish fry, which was also the day he hit Meagan in the face with a tennis ball. He lit it when he came back from fishing and it was too dark to see your hand in front of your face. Everyone came that night, except for Jessica because she was already sleeping. When Andy, Emily, and Patrick went to get more firewood, Erica, Jon, Meagan, and Rachel decided to hide. When they came back from the woodshed, the others were nowhere to be found. They finally found them face-down on the ground, away from the fire’s light. Everyone was laughing and Emily was freaking out because they scared her. She then decided to play dead, and Jon had to carry her back to the fire.
Friday was the annual good-bye fire. Andy built and lit that one too. Jessica and Jon were already gone. The remaining six were sitting around the fire when a raccoon showed up and, of course, Andy scared it away again. Emily decided to play with a flammable pine branch that was taller than her. The branch was huge and she couldn’t handle it. She dropped it in the fire, engulfing the branch in flames. Andy grabbed it from her and brought it down the lake to put it out. After that series of events, it was time for the most hated part of the trip: saying good-bye. Everyone exchanged numbers, promising to keep in touch until next year. The bucket of water was poured over the fire, and everyone walked away as the flames went out.

He is all set and heads off but it is still stuck. He had no idea what was wrong! But then he spots a white piece of paper on the bottom he pulls it out and it was his home address and his house number. He was so confused? But he knew his parents were looking for him he put the peaces together and saw they wanted him but he still saw the way they were before he left. He was sad, confused, curious laying on his camp set. Still wondering "should I have left"? He agreed with himself that he was meant to leave it was better that way, so he set up camp and left trying to forgrt about it but he felt. just in case he needed them, he kept the flyer with his number and home address. Tim got on his bike and as he was leaving that area a tear shed from his face and a frown still thinking they would make it easer with out him.
